Photo and image converter

Get photos into the format the next app expects. iPhone HEIC shots, WebP images saved from the web, AVIF and TIFF files can all be saved as JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, JPEG XL, ICO or a traced SVG, many files at once.

How to use the Image Converter

  1. Add pictures from your camera roll export, a folder or the clipboard. Mixed formats are fine.
  2. Pick the output format in the Convert to menu.
  3. Adjust quality for JPG, WebP, AVIF or JPEG XL, and pick new dimensions under More settings when the target needs them.
  4. Convert and download each picture, or all of them as a ZIP.

iPhone photos that will not open

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. It is a good format, roughly half the size of an equivalent JPG, but Windows apps, older Android phones and many upload forms still reject it. This page decodes HEIC with libheif in WebAssembly, which means Chrome, Edge and Firefox handle it as well as Safari does.

Choose JPG for the widest compatibility. If the pictures are going onto a website, WebP or AVIF keep most of the size advantage HEIC had.

Picking an output for media projects

Video editors and slideshow apps are happiest with JPG or PNG. Use PNG when an image has text or flat graphics that must stay crisp, JPG for photographs. TIFF suits print workflows that expect it, and ICO creates a small icon file from a square logo.

Animated GIF and multi-page TIFF inputs are read as a single image: the first frame or first page. EXIF data, including camera details and GPS location, is not copied to the output, but the rotation it describes is applied first so portraits stay upright.

Questions

Is HEIC to JPG conversion lossless?

No. Both are lossy formats, so converting re-encodes the picture. At quality 85 or higher the result is visually the same as the original for normal use.

Why is my SVG output so large?

SVG output is produced by tracing the picture into coloured shapes. That suits logos and icons with few colours; a photograph turns into thousands of shapes. Lower the Colours value or keep photos as raster formats.

Do the photos leave my device?

No. Decoding and encoding run in WebAssembly inside this tab, and the results are saved straight from your browser.
